Remember to always prioritize safety and have a sturdy support nearby, such as a wall or a chair, in case you need assistance. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns about your balance, it’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or your physical therapist before starting a new exercise routine.

It can be beneficial for individuals of different fitness levels and can be used for rehabilitation, athletic training, or general fitness purposes.

A Bosu is a balance trainer with a flat surface and an inflated round surface on top. Bosu stands for “both sides utilized” as you can perform many exercises on either the round or the flat surface.

Balance Disc

A balance disc or stability disc, is a versatile piece of equipment commonly used in fitness and rehabilitation settings to improve balance, stability, and core strength. It consists of an inflatable disc made of durable material that you can stand or sit on for various exercises.

Balance Board

There are many different types of balance boards on the market, but the main concept is to stand on an unsteady surface to improve balance. Some have a circle bottom allowing the board to move in all directions while others have a unidimensional bottom allowing either a rocking forward or sideways motion.

How does this Equipment Work?

All of this equipment has a common theme, an unsteady surface that helps to improve your body’s proprioception and kinesthetic awareness. Proprioception refers to the body’s ability to sense its position, movement, and orientation in space. Using balance equipment challenges your proprioceptive system, as it requires your body to constantly adapt and adjust to the instability. Over time, this can improve your proprioception and kinesthetic awareness, leading to better balance and coordination.

Safety is Key

Regardless of what balance equipment you choose to use in your home, you want to make sure you’re always being safe. Some people can use these without any external support, but it’s best to talk to your Physical Therapist and set up a safe exercise routine for you to complete.
